Once your dog is used to staying in a command inside, without a leash, the next step is to take the leash off.
Put your dog in a command, say stay, and take a few steps back.
If they stay, reward them; however, if they get out of their command, restart the exercise and don't take as many steps back.
Work your way up to longer distances and more time.
Next step will be practicing with your dog outside.
*If your dog isn't listening very well without the leash on, then put the leash back on and keep practicing.
